Kosovo Declares Independence

In a surprising move the breakaway province and newly proclaimed "Republic of Kosovo" Declared Independence from Serbia after a vote from its assembly. The Declaration was supported by teh United States, England, France and Most of teh European Union. Tensions rose around the world as Albanians and Serbs around the world clashed between celebrations and protests.

Celebrations in the capital of Kosovo Priština were intense, celebrations in Ottawa Canada were among the biggest in North America, although the Canadian government ahs not released its position on the tricky issue as it has its own province Quebec that has a history of wanting its independence.Russian President Vladimir Putin strongly denounced the independence from its close ally Serbia, the world is watching t see what Russia plans to do about the fragile situation.

Former Pakistani Prime Minister Killed in Bombing

Former Prime Minister of Pakistan and political opposition leader Benazir Bhutto was killed Thursday in a suicide attack on her white SUV after a Political rally.

The death of Ms. Bhutto, one of Pakistan's most beloved leaders and head of its largest political party, is an emotional event for many. Rioting broke out in several cities late Thursday night. The unrest could lead to the declaration of martial law, experts say, and the postponement of parliamentary elections scheduled for Jan. 8, 2008.

Bhutto was shot in the neck and torso after a political rally and then was killed by a suicide bomb that hit her SUV and killed 20 others. She was pronounced dead an hour later at the hospital.

Political Analysts warn that the death of Ms. Bhutto will probably lead to a long term political instability in the country, and in the Middle east. The Stock markets in New York also dropped some 100 points after the news was given out.

Bhutto's rival Pakistani President Musharraf gave his sympathies to Bhutto's family and announced 3 days of official morning.

New Slovenian President Sworn into office

Dr. Danilo Turk President of the Republic of Slovenia official Succeeded Dr. Janez Drnovsek as President of the Republic of Slovenia. Last Month Danilo Turk won 70% of votes in a run off election against Lojze Peterle a former Slovenian Prime Minister.

The Lawyer and former Diplomat from Maribor promised in his inauguration speech further cooperation between Slovenia and the EU as well the new president promised full cooperation between him and the Slovenian Prime Minister Janez Jansa, something that did not happen when Janez Drnovsek was in office.

Slovenia will officially be the Rotating EU Presidency state starting January 1st that will last 6 months. Slovenia is the newest member state of the Eu to do so.

Russian Elections Rigged?

Russia's Parliamentary Election have been criticized around the world, and they have good reason to. Numerous Russian Government Workers have said they have been threatened with their jobs if they do not sign a secret contract saying they will vote for Vladimir Putin's United Russia Party.

The Party has won the Most seats with 63% of the vote. The next trailing party was the Communist Party with about 11% of the votes.

Russia's President Vladimir Putin has tried numerous times to alter the amount of terms he is aloud to run in the past as a tool to try and stay in power, but according to the Constitution he will have to step down as president in March.

Danilo Tuerk, the next President of Slovenia, featured left

With 69% of the votes it is unavoidable that Dr. Danilo Tuerk will succeed Dr. Janez Drnovsek as President of the Republic of Slovenia. Dr. Tuerk was Slovenia's first representative to the UN in the 1990's and is a relatively new political figure. Lojze Peterle who won the first Presidential election in October with a slim 4% only received a startling 30% of the votes. He was also supported by the Current Slovenian Prime Minister Janez Jansa.

Is Pakistan's state of emergency really a state of emergency?

The nuclear, US supported state of Pakistan has once again erupted into turmoil as the Pakistani President and Military ruler Pervez Musharraf Declared a state of emergency. With the state of emergency, normal Pakistani citizens have literally no rights and the Pakistani Supreme court, the one that was supposed to rule if Mr Musharraf can still be president, was disbanded. Mr. Musharraf appears to be going over his own head as he has very little public support.

The Military ruler recently granted former exiled Prime Minister Bhutto to be allowed back to the country to form a "coalition government" many Pakistanis say the leader is just desperate to stay in power. The outcome of that should play out in the upcoming future.

Janez Drnovsek, President of the Republic of Slovenia. Some say hes crazy and some say he is starting a revolution.

Janez Drnovsek was President of Yugoslavia in the late 1980's and he ran for President of the newly independent Slovenia in 2003. Since then he has become a vegetarian, vegan and a Major environmental activist. On top of this he refuses to live in the Presidential Palace and that's right he greets trees. Mr. Drnovsek's term ends in December and he is not running for re-election. What will his legacy be? Should he have acted more statesmen-like?
